About
Kirsten Sparey lives and works on a smallholding in the middle of the beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside, yet only minutes from the stunning Pembrokeshire coast. Born in Pembrokeshire she returned to her home county fifteen years ago.

Kirsten persued her love of sculpture throughout her career as a lawyer, using sculpture as as a meditative complement.
All of her sculptures are of creatures both sea and land, she mostly takes inspiration from domestic and wildlife animals close to home with the occasional more exotic diversion.

She works with slabs of clay adding layers to create the eventual form; never completely sure what is going to appear when tearing clay off to begin a sculpture; the piece or animal evolves as she works with the clay. She creates what she thinks is the essence of the creature. Her style is additive, retaining and demonstrating the quality of the creature and clay.

The sculptures she finishes with hand mixed oxides or glazes, or a mixture of both.

Her Raku work involves a process called naked raku, which entails layers of slip or glaze falling away after the final firing, leaving the form 'naked' and revealing incredible patterns.
